Construction Update from Fairfield - Part 8

The first week of June has been full of activities at the EAF construction site. At the melt shop, the crew continues their work on setting parts for the tilt platform, while performing additional iron work at the south end. The cranes at the nearby caster bay have also been removed in preparation to start excavation work for the vacuum tank degasser.

An important aspect to a safe and productive electric arc furnace is having a proper cooling system in place.  This week, trenches are being dug by excavators to prepare for the installation of underground cooling water pipe.  These 30-inch conduits will channel water to various parts of the operation to prevent overheating and malfunctions.

Hoover to Issue $275M in Bonds for U.S. Steel EAF #1 Project

The city of Hoover announced earlier today that its Hoover Industrial Development Board (HIDB) will issue $275 million in bonds to support our electric arc furnace project in Fairfield, Alabama. This signifies an important commitment for both HIDB and U. S. Steel to continue to boost economic development and job creation in the region.
