Construction Update from Fairfield - Part 18

Keeping the momentum from last month, we are continuing to bring in parts for the furnace. Read below for a progress update on the construction of the Electric Arc Furnace in Fairfield, Alabama.

In the photo below, the furnace hood is being moved towards the melt shop . The opening in the middle of the hood is where the electrodes enter the furnace and provide energy to begin the heating process.

Also at the melt shop, the overhead crane perches near the highest point of the building. One of the most important components in EAF steel making, the crane picks up the steel scrap bucket to empty the contents, or charge, into the furnace.
